DAVIS, Calif./TULSA, Okla. – California's Bjorn Hoffmann continued his strong play on Saturday at the Aggie Invitational by reaching the semifinals of the Singles A bracket and – with Connor Heap – the final of the top-flight doubles draw at UC Davis.

In the Doubles A semifinals, the second-seeded Cal sophomores bested Nevada's Julian Aremon and Julien Evrard, 8-2, on Saturday.

In singles, the top-seeded Hoffmann advanced past Sacramento State's Kasparas Zemaitelis, who withdrew with an illness, in the round of 16 and then knocked off Pierre Garcia, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

After losing in the Singles A draw Friday, Heap moved into the back draw on Saturday and upset Sacramento State's fourth-seeded Mikus Losbergs, 6-2, 7-5, in the first round before getting a second-round bye. Heap lost to San Francisco's Paul Giraud in the round of 16, 6-1, 6-2.

Just as in the Singles A draw, Cal put two Golden Bears – including a Barretto – into the Singles B draw semifinals. Cal's top-seeded freshman Can Kaya beat Gonzaga's Bryan Husin, 6-2, 6-2, in the round of 16 and then topped Aremon, 5-7, 7-5, 7-3, in the quarterfinals to get to the final four. Second-seeded sophomore Nic Barretto defeated Portland's Tom Hahn, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 16 and fifth-seeded Mitchell Iwahiro of UC Davis, 7-6(1), 7-5, in the quarters.

Cal sophomore Gunther Matta and freshman Jackson Suh both lost in the B round of 16, with Matta falling to Sacramento State's Christopher Clayton, 6-1, 6-4, and Suh losing to Nevada's Jeremy Merville, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. But Suh rebounded with a consolation win, beating Portland's Drew Davison, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0(8).

In C singles, freshman Thomas Wright fell to Pacific's Nathan Hampton, 6-2, 6-3.

In the Doubles A back draw, the top-seeded Barretto brothers had a quarterfinal bye but then lost in the semis to Sacramento State's Donald Hall and Dom Miller, 8-7(6). Matta and Suh had a quarterfinal bye in the Doubles B back draw, but the Bears lost to Gonzaga's second-seeded Samuel Felt and Ruadhan O'Sullivan, 8-4, in the semis.

Also on Saturday, Cal freshmen Jacob Brumm and Jack Molloy competed in pre-qualifying singles in the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa. Brumm advanced to the round of 64 after getting a bye in the round of 256 and then posting a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over South Carolina's Paul Jubb in the round of 128. Two wins on Sunday would put Brumm into qualifying singles, which start Monday.

Molloy lost to UC Irvine's Luca Marquard, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, in the All-American round of 256.

The All-American ends on Oct. 9.
