EUGENE, Ore. - Olivia Hauger's three-set singles win gave No. 9/18 California a 4-3 victory over Oregon on Saturday at the Oregon Student Tennis Center.

The Cal sophomore, ranked 98th in singles, defeated Julia Eshet, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 on court four.

"The second set I almost closed it out," Hauger said. "I came back in the third set, trusted my game and just competed really hard. I had all my teammates on the side, cheering, and that was really helpful."

The Bears' record is now 13-3 (6-1 Pac-12), while Oregon's record is now 11-9 (4-4 Pac-12).

Oregon captured the doubles point after winning on courts three and one. The Cal pair of seniors Denise Starr and Stephane Lin lost to Nia Rose and Marlou Kluiving, 6-4, on three, and then Cal's 41st-ranked team of Maya Jansen and Maegan Manasse lost in an upset to Eshet and Shweta Sangwan, 6-4, to clinch the point for the Ducks.

In singles, Oregon doubled its lead when Alyssa Tobita upset Cal senior Maegan Manasse on court two. The 53rd-ranked Bear fell, 6-0, 6-3. Maya Jansen beat Kluiving, 6-2, 6-0, on court five to put Cal on the scoreboard, and then Starr knocked off Rose, 6-4, 6-2, on court three to knot the match at 2-2.

Cal suffered another setback when sophomore Maria Smith lost to Daniela Nasser, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, on court six to give Oregon a 3-2 lead. But ninth-ranked junior Karla Popovic followed with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 win over Sangwan on court one, before Hauger settled the match on court four.

"We didn't get off to the best start in doubles," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "We could've been a little more aggressive at the start of doubles. But then in singles we won the first set on five of six courts. We really swung everything in the direction we needed to once singles started. Oregon competed well. But we have confidence in our singles, and we stepped up at the end of the match when we needed to. It's a good road victory for the team today."

The Bears return to the Hellman Tennis Complex next week to host Washington on April 14 and then host Washington State on April 15. Prior to the match with the Cougars, Cal will conduct its Senior Day ceremony The Bears will close out the regular-season in an April 22 showdown with Stanford at Hellman.
