INDIAN WELLS, Calif./TEMPE, Ariz. – Anna Bright earned the right to play on the final day of the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships when the California freshman upset Syracuse's 38th-ranked Gabriela Knutson, 6-2, 6-1, in Saturday's semifinals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
 
Bright will face Florida's 15th-ranked Anna Danilina in Sunday's 10 a.m. PT final at Indian Wells. Danilina was the top seed in single main draw but lost in an upset in the opening round of 64.
 
"It's really exciting to have Anna playing in a final at the fall nationals as a freshman," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "She played even better today, and she's getting stronger each match. To be playing on the last day of the fall season is exciting, and I think she's going to hopefully continue and do some great things as she moves into her first spring as a Bear."
 
Danilina is a familiar face to the Bears. Her first loss of the season was to Cal senior Karla Popovic. The fifth-ranked Bear defeated the Gator, 6-4, 7-6(4), in the round of 32 at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships in early October.
 
Saturday was also the second day of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Arizona. Cal freshman Vivian Glozman posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over San Diego's Sophia Chow in the consolation singles quarterfinals. But the Golden Bear fell to Notre Dame's Rachel Chong, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the semifinals. Chong had beaten Cal freshman Jasie Dunk, 7-5, 6-3, in the quarters.
 
In doubles, Dunk and senior Audrey Mayer lost to USD's Chow and Maria-Paula Torres, 6-2, while Glozman and junior Maria Smith fell to Illinois' Jaclyn Switkes and Emilee Duong, 7-6(6).
 
The Arizona State tournament will likewise conclude on Sunday.
