SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Bjorn Hoffmann came away with some hardware for the second straight week, as the California sophomore and freshman teammate Jackson Suh captured the C Doubles consolation title in a walkover on Sunday as the UCSB Classic concluded.
 
On Oct. 1, Hoffmann captured the top-flight singles title in the Aggie Invitational at UC Davis.
 
The Golden Bears were supposed to play Pacific's Nathan Hampton and Daniel Orlita on Sunday at UC Santa Barbara, but the Tigers withdrew.
 
Cal had a shot at another consolation doubles crown, but brothers Nic, a sophomore, and Paul, a freshman, lost to Pacific's Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira, 8-6, in the A final. In the B Doubles third-place match, Cal sophomore Gunther Matta and freshman Can Kaya knocked off Fresno State's Henrique Osorio and Cem Erturk, 8-5.
 
Hoffmann, in the A Singles flight, lost to UCLA's Keegan Smith, 6-2, 6-2, in the third-place match, while Cal freshman Paul Barretto captured fifth place with a 6-4, 6-2 win over UCSB's Anders Holm.
 
In the B Singles third-place match, Cal sophomore Nic Barretto took third place with a 6-4, 7-6(4), victory over Kento Perera. Suh, playing in the C Singles consolation final, lost to Pacific's Oliveira, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(10). In D Singles, Bears freshman Thomas Wright beat Matt Campana of Saint Mary's, 7-6(3), 6-1, in consolation action but then lost to the Gaels' Calvin Jordaan, 6-2, 7-6(5), in the 11th-place match.
 
The Bears next compete from Oct. 19-23 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Stockton, California.
