TULSA, Okla./SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – California's top doubles team posted an upset in the first round of the consolation draw on Friday, as Billy Griffith and J.T. Nishimura, ranked 39th, upset Penn State's 18th-ranked duo of Constant De La Bassetiere and Christian Lakoseljac, 6-3, 7-5, in the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships.
 
The Bears will next play Wisconsin's Chema Carranza and Josef Dodridge in the consolation doubles quarterfinals at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
 
Also on Friday, Griffith, ranked 49th, lost to Minnesota's 39th-ranked Matic Spec, 7-6(6), 7-6(0), in the opening round of 32 in the consolation singles bracket.
 
Also on Friday, two Golden Bears won in the round of 16 to advance in top-flight singles at the UCSB Classic. Sophomore Bjorn Hoffmann beat Fresno State's Jeremy Moser, 7-6, 6-7, 6-1, while freshman Paul Barretto topped Pacific's Akram El Sallaly, 6-2, 6-0.
 
In the A Doubles draw, the Barretto brothers – Paul and Nic, a sophomore – fell to UCLA's Keegan Smith and Bryce Pereira, 8-5, in the opening quarterfinals. The Bears will move on to play in the back draw on Saturday.
