Bears Fall In All-American Main Draws

TULSA, Okla. – California seniors Billy Griffith and J.T. Nishimura are out of the main draws of the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships after losing to talented opponents in Thursday's openers. Both will play in consolation matches on Friday at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
 
In the singles round of 64, Griffith, ranked 49th, fell to 13th-ranked and eighth-seeded Constantin Schmitz of Tulane, 6-2, 6-3. Griffith will next face Minnesota's 39th-ranked Matic Spec in Friday's consolation round of 32 at 9 a.m. CT.
 
In the doubles round of 32, the 39th-ranked Nishimura and Griffith lost to North Carolina's third-ranked and third-seeded William Blumberg and Robert Kelly, 6-2, 6-4. The Bears will next play Penn State's 18th-ranked Constant De La Bassetiere and Christian Lakoseljac in the consolation doubles round of 16 at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
