STOCKTON, Calif. – California went five for five in main draw singles and saw four out of five doubles teams also advance in the main draw round of 16 on Friday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at the University of Pacific's Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

The Bears are battling with the region's other top players and each other for spots in the last major tournament of the fall – the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships that take place Nov. 1-5. The two singles finalists in the main draw and the duo that wins main draw doubles at regionals will advance to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in November.
 
Four Bears are seeded in singles, with Cal senior Billy Griffith leading the way as the top seed. Also ranked 49th, Griffith defeated Gonzaga's Emilio Moreno, 6-0, 6-2. Fifth-seeded Jack Molloy also won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(3), over Pacific's Bernardo Oliveiro, 6-2, 6-1, fellow freshman Jacob Brumm – seeded eighth – beat another Tiger in 17th-seeded Akram El Sallaly, 6-2, 6-1, and 12th-seeded Paul Barretto, another freshman topped 17th-seeded Henrique Osorio of Fresno State, 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Nic Barretto bested Seattle's Colton Weeldreyer, 6-2, 6-1, to join his brother and the other Bears in the round of 16.
 
All five Cal doubles teams won in the opening round of 64 on Friday. In the round of 32, the top-seeded and 39th-ranked Griffith and senior J.T. Nishimura beat Seattle's Arshak Ghazaryan/Emilio Monroy, 8-4, the seventh-seeded Barretto brothers defeated Fresno State's Cem Erturk/Catagay Soke, 8-2, the ninth-seeded Brumm and Molloy topped Mitchell Iwahiro/Arjith Jayaraman of UC Davis, 8-3, freshman Can Kaya and junior Gunther Matta upset Stanford's ninth-seeded Sam Turchetta/David Wilczynski, 8-7(4), and sophomore Bjorn Hoffmann and freshman Jackson Suh fell to San Francisco's Johan Jonhagen and Mert Zincirli, 8-4.
 
The northwest regionals end on Monday.
