Bright and Glozman take on Stloukalova-Watanabe of Fresno State at 9 a.m., while #11 ranked Hauger-Popovic received an injury forfeit for the round of 64 and will not start play until Saturday.

For the singles play, Bears saw mixed success throughout the day. Glozman dropped her match first match of the day, 7-5, 6-2, and moved into the consolation bracket for her next match. Dunk won her singles match, 6-3, 6-2, followed with a loss in the Round of 64 by Dario of Fresno State.

Hauger received a first-round bye, and dominated her round of 64 match, beating Maxfield of USF 6-1, 6-1; she will play Kate Ketels of the University of Oregon in the Round of 32 tomorrow at 10:30 am. Bears top ranked player Audrey Mayer lost her Round of 128 match to Giannina Ong of Santa Clara in a close match, 7-6(2), 6-7(4); 6-0.

Anna Bright started her day off with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 win over Jackie Wagner of San Jose State, and followed in the same fashion for her Round of 64 match, beating Jenna Dorian of Sacramento State 6-2; 6-0.  Bright will begin play tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. against No. 65 Julia Eshet of Oregon.

Smith saw success early, with a dominating win over Lewis of Eastern Washington 6-0, 6-0. She followed with a win over Santa Clara's Madison Clarke (6-1, 6-1), and will play the winner of L. Malsert v. I. vonEbbe tomorrow at 10:30 am.

Head coach Amanda Augustus was pleased with today's play, noting that "today was a good first day of the tournament. We only had one doubles match today, which we were successful in. We then switched over to singles play and I think everyone did a good job today. It's quite a bit of a long day, and given that they were playing staggered over different parts of the day, I think they were all really prepared and ready to go."  Augustus noted that she was particularly impressed with the play of Maria Smith, as "she won both her doubles and two singles matches, and she was truly able to be successful in all three."

The tournament carries significant importance as this season, the regional singles finalists and doubles champion will advance to the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Indian Wells, California

The Bears continue play tomorrow, starting at 9:00 a.m. PST. You can follow the results live by clicking here, and get updates from the Golden Bears twitter feed (@CalWomensTennis).
