Top Ranked Griffith powers through the competition, moves on to Round of 32 Champions bracket

Bears Stomp Competition Early at ITA Regionals
STOCKTON, Calif.-  The Golden Bears began singles play Thursday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, stomping on competition left and right as the day progressed at the University of Pacific's Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center. The Bears send four of their six singles players to the Championship bracket through the round of 32.Â
Can Kaya was the first Bear to play on Thursday, dropping his first match of the day against Jack Davis of Washington 3-6; 7-6(4); 4-6. He now moves into Friday Extra Singles Consolation play, and will also play with
Gunther Matta in doubles at 8:45 a.m. against Anderson-Chan of Seattle University.
Dominic Barretto followed Kaya with an upset win in his match against Giraud of San Francisco, 6-2; 7-5. Barretto's upsetting ways continued with another win over Stanford's David Wilczynski,  7-5; 6-2. He moves on to play Seattle's Weeldreyer in the Champions Bracket tomorrow at 2 pm.
Paul Barretto also won both of his matches today, and moves into the round of 32 with his brother. P. Barretto first beat Nield of Seattle 6-3; 6-4, and followed with another dominate upset Miller of Sac State 6-4; 6-2.Â
Jack Molloy will go with the brothers onto the round of 32 Champions bracket, with a win after a round of 128 bye against Pech of Fresno State, 6-3; 6-3. Molloy will play Pacific's Oliviera tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Jackson Suh won his first match of the day, beating Young-Smith from the University of Oregon, 6-2; 7-6(5). He then played Pervolarakis of Portland in the round of 64, losing 6-3; 3-6; 3-6. Suh moves with Kaya onto Extra Singles Consolation play on Friday.Â

Billy Griffith was dominant after sitting through a first-round bye, beating Stanford's Sam Turchetta 6-2; 7-6(5). Griffith moves on to the Round of 32, playing Robert Seby of Santa Clara tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.Â
Doubles play will begin for the Bears tomorrow with Matta-Kaya playing at 8:45 am against Anderson-Chan of Seattle.
Billy Griffith and JT Nishimura, the top-ranked doubles pair of the tournament, will begin play tomorrow against the winner of Ghazarayan- Monroy of Seattle and Giruid-Marker of San Francisco at 9:45 am.
Bjorn Hoffmann and
Jackson Suh will take on Donald Hall and Don Miller of Sacramento State at 9 a.m. The Barretto brothers will begin the day with a bye, and play the winner of Paz-Raveau of Eastern Washington and Erturk-Soke of Fresno State at 10 a.m.Â
