DAVIS, Calif. ? California's J.T. Nishimura won twice on Saturday to reach the top-flights singles final at the Aggie Invitational at the Marya Welch Tennis Center at UC Davis. The sophomore will face Nevada's fourth-seeded Ryan Andrada, who advanced from the semifinals after Golden Bear senior Mads Engsted ? the defending singles champion at the Aggie Invitational? retired with an injury when trailing, 6-4.

Nishimura upset Stanford's third-seeded Anthony Tsodikov in the flight A quarterfinal round, 7-5, 6-0, before upsetting second-seeded Alec Adamson of UC Davis, 6-3, 6-2, in the semifinals.

Also in the flight A quarterfinals, Engsted ? the top seed ? led Andrew Gu, 6-1, 2-1, before the Nevada player retired with an injury.

Bears almost reached other singles finals. Freshman Ryan Shen beat Santa Clara's Kamran Khan, 7-5, 6-2, in the flight B quarters. But flight B's second seed lost to fourth-seeded Everett Maltby, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the semis. In the flight B singles consolation quarterfinals, Cal freshman Gunther Matta got past Pacific's Jack LaPlante in an injury walkover. But Matta lost a tight semi against the Aggie's Adam Levie, 1-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(9).

In doubles, Engsted and Nishimura ? the top seed in flight A ? lost in the main draw quarters to Stanford's Roy Lederman and Brandon Sutter, 8-7(4). In the consolation quarterfinals, the Bear pair moved past Nevada's Aaron Breust and Andrew Poustie, who withdrew from due to an injury. But the Cal duo ? which would've played Sacramento State's Dom Miller and Uli Vollath next ? withdrew from the semis with an injury.

The Aggie Invitational concludes on Sunday.
