MORAGA, Calif. – California completed the fall part of its season on Sunday at the Gael Classic, with one doubles team – senior Nikhil Jayashankar and junior Jordan Smith – reaching a final. But the Golden Bears fell, 8-3, to Cal Poly's Naveen Beasley and Tim Tan in flight B.

Also on Sunday, the two Bears defeated Sacramento State's Ayman Abdulwahab/Tom Miller, 8-6, in the flight B semifinal round.

Cal had the top two seeds in the flight A singles bracket. But top-seeded junior Oskar Wikberg and second-seeded junior Mads Engsted both fell in Sunday's quarterfinals. Wikberg lost to James Wade of UC Davis, 7-5, 6-4, while Engsted dropped a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0(8) result to Bryce McKelvie, another Aggie.

Wyatt Houghton played in the flight B singles semifinals, but the Cal junior lost to Wil Martin of Saint Mary's, 8-6. Earlier Sunday, Houghton beat Tommy Lam of UC Davis, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. The flight B singles consolation bracket included Smith, who lost to San Francisco's fourth-seeded Alex Santiago, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0(9), in the quarters.

In the flight A doubles consolation bracket, the Cal duo of Houghton and Wikberg moved past the Holy Names team of Rafael Martinez/Brook Workeneh due to injury. But the final for this consolation bracket was not played.

Cal returns to action in the New Year, when the Bears play in the San Diego Invitational from Jan. 9-11 in San Diego.
