ATHENS, Ga. - 13th-ranked California women's tennis freshman Zsofi Susanyi posted her team-leading 40th singles victory and joined eighth-ranked senior Jana Juricova--who earned her 30th win--in the quarterfinals as each of the Golden Bears earned round-of-16 wins in the 2012 NCAA Division I Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Friday, May 25.

Juricova was impressive as the sixth seed as she claimed her fifth straight win without dropping a set. In her second meeting against 40th-ranked Aeriel Ellis of Texas, Juricova stood fast in the first set to come away with a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker. She then settled into a rhythm to walk away with a 7-6, 6-2 win. The victory was Juricova's 30th of the year. She has logged at least 30 wins in each of her four seasons as a Bear and became the fourth Cal player to reach that plateau, this season.

In only her second meeting with fourth-ranked and fourth-seeded Robin Anderson of UCLA, Susanyi earned another straight-set victory, 7-5, 6-4, to advance out of the round of 16. It was Susanyi's team-best 40th singles win of the year; her sixth in a row without dropping a set. Between the two, Juricova and Susanyi are 70-13 in singles matches, this year.

Juricova draws a familiar foe in the quarterfinals in third-ranked and third-seeded Nicole Gibbs of Stanford. The two met for the first time in last year's NCAA semifinals where Juricova came up with a thrilling three-set victory on her way to capturing the national crown. Gibbs returned the favor in another three-setter as she knocked off Juricova in the semifinals of the ITA Northwest Regional in the fall of 2011. Juricova also faced Gibbs in the Cal-Stanford dual a month ago where the Cardinal prevailed in two sets, 7-6, 6-2.

Susanyi will face 26th-ranked Sabrina Santamaria of USC in the next round. Susanyi is 1-1 against USC opponents, but the two freshmen have never met on the court. Both of Cal's singles quarterfinalists will play their matches at 9 a.m. PT on Saturday, May 26.

Ranked 15th as a doubles team, Juricova and Susanyi also paired to advance into the doubles quarterfinals. The duo breezed through its first set against Vanderbilt's 30th-ranked tandem of Lauren Mira and Jackie Wu to capture a 6-0 win. The Commodores fought back in the second set, though, and earned a pair of service breaks to turn a 4-2 deficit into a five-all tie. The Bears held their ground to win the final two games and finish up with a 6-0, 7-5 win.

The Cal duo will now face host Georgia's 27th-ranked team of Nadja Gilchrist and Chelsey Gullickson. They also faced Gilchrist and Gullickson in the quarterfinals of the ITA Indoor Team Championships on Feb. 11. The Bears dispatched of the then-second-ranked Bulldog pair, 8-1.

The round of 16 was the end of the road for Cal's fifth-ranked duo of junior Annie Goransson and sophomore Anett Schutting, however, as the pair completed the season with a team-best 33-7 record. Goransson and Schutting faced Florida's 22nd-ranked team of Lauren Embree and Joanna Mather and won their first set, 6-3, but the Gators had other plans as they claimed 6-3 wins in sets two and three to pull off the upset.
