BERKELEY - The 10th-ranked California women's tennis team (17-5, 8-1 Pac-12) defeated No. 53 Fresno State (11-8, 3-0 WAC), 7-0, on Tuesday, April 17, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. In the last regular-season home match of the year, the Golden Bears celebrated the careers and contributions of seniors Stephany Chang, Jana Juricova, and Catalina Visicoin pre-match ceremonies.

"It was pretty emotional," said Juricova. "But the thing is, you have to play a match after, so you can't really let go all the way. It was great to stand up there, and hear your name, and hear your parents' names. I remember when the seniors did it when I was a freshman, and I wondered what it would feel like. It's been a great four years even though it doesn't seem like it has been that long."

"In some ways, I don't think it's hit me yet," said head coach Amanda Augustus. "We've still got a lot ahead of us. It's going to be strange, come next fall, when they're not at practice every day. It's my first full recruiting class, and it's gone pretty quickly, but I'm excited to see what the three of them do, next."

The Bears appeared to be in peril of losing the doubles point as the Bulldogs led on the bottom two courts. Still, Cal struck first with a win at the top court where its 43rd-ranked team of Juricova and freshman Zsofi Susanyi completed an 8-4 win against Marianne Jodoin and Laura Pola to extend their winning streak to 13.

At court three, Fresno State's team of Melissa McQueen and Tanya Murtagh held a 5-3 lead against junior Tayler Davis and sophomore Alice Duranteau, but the Bears battled back to claim a 7-6 lead on Duranteau's serve. At court two, Aishwarya Agrawal and Bianca Modoc led, 6-4, against the Bears' 17th-ranked tandem of junior Annie Goransson and sophomore Anett Schutting, but the Cal duo fought back and broke the FSU serve to claim a 7-6 lead, as well.

Schutting was the heroine of the hour as her serve put the Bulldogs away on court two for an 8-6 win that clinched the doubles point for the 19th time, this season. It was the 11th win in a row for Goransson and Schutting since March 3. On court three, Davis served the Bears to an 8-7 lead before they broke Murtagh's serve for the three-court sweep.

"I think they may have been a little rusty from the last match we had," said Augustus. "I think they just needed to work their way through it. Coaching wise, we just stood back a little bit and let them sort their way through it. We've played a lot of matches, now, and they know what to do. It's a matter of staying settled and hitting the right type of ball and we were pretty confident they would pull through."

99th-ranked Goransson pushed the Bears ahead to a 2-0 lead when she delivered on a 6-0, 6-2 win against Modoc at No. 5 singles. It was the 11th win in a row for the most recent Pac-12 Player of the Week honoree; her 31st overall. Just one minute later, 12th-ranked Susanyi earned her team-high 32nd win of the year at court two where she defeated Agrawal, 6-2, 6-2, to put the Bears within a point of clinching the match.

55th-ranked Davis served up a bagel in the second set to put a 6-4, 6-0 score in the record books against Pola at No. 4 singles. The win clinched the dual for the Bears and paved the way for Cal's 7-0 sweep. At the top court, eighth-ranked Juricova cruised to a 6-1 win against No. 38 Jodoin in the first set, but let a 5-2 lead slip away as Jodoin knotted things up at five-all in the second. Juricova responded to walk away with the final two games and post Cal's fifth point in the dual.

The Bears' sixth point came from freshman Cecilia Estlander who won her sixth straight match as she took out Murtagh, 6-2, 6-4, at court six. Cal completed the 7-0 sweep with a win at court three where 81st-ranked Schutting snapped a short two-match losing streak to beat McQueen, 6-3, 7-5. It was the 29th win this year for Schutting who is in line to become the third Bear to reach the 30-win plateau.

Cal completes its regular-season schedule with a pivotal Pac-12 dual at rival No. 5 Stanford (16-1, 7-1 Pac-12) on Saturday, April 21, at noon PT on the courts of the Taube Family Tennis Stadium, in Stanford, Calif.
