SALT LAKE CITY - The 10th-ranked California women's tennis team (9-4, 2-0 Pac-12) won its third straight dual match by claiming a 6-1 win over No. 28 Utah (7-5, 0-2) at Coach Mike's Tennis Academy on Sunday, March 11. The Golden Bears swept doubles matches with wins on all three courts to claim the doubles point for the 10th time, this season.
At No. 2 doubles, junior Tayler Davis teamed with freshman Zsofi Susanyi to defeat Danielle Flores and Lucia Kovarcikova, 8-3, to give Cal the upper hand. Down one court, sophomore Alice Duranteau and freshman Cecilia Estlander earned an 8-6 win against Sarah Pham and Sammie Watson to secure the first point of the day. With the point decided, Cal's 27th-ranked team of junior Annie Goransson and sophomore Anett Schutting won, 8-6, against Utah's duo of Callie Craig and Anastasia Putilina.
The Bears wasted no time as singles matches got under way and went up, 2-0, on a win by No. 93-ranked Goransson at court four. Goransson defeated Flores, 6-0, 6-2, for her fourth consecutive singles victory. At the top court, 15th-ranked Susanyi made short work of No. 62-ranked Putilina in a 6-0, 6-1 decision that notched Susnayi's team-high 24th singles win.
Down at court six, Duranteau knocked off Watson, 6-2, 6-2, to deliver Cal's fourth point and clinched the match for the Bears. Utah got on the board with a win at court two where Pham upended No. 44-ranked Davis in a pair of 6-4 sets. Cal posted its fifth point on a three-set win by No. 109 Estlander at court five where she defeated Kovarcikova, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0, with a 10-8 score in the third-set match tiebreaker. No. 101-ranked Schutting had the final point in her pocket as she took out Craig, 7-5, 7-5, at court three.
