CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The 13th-ranked California men's tennis team (4-3) fell, 4-0, to No. 4 Georgia (7-0) in the first round of the 2012 ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship at the Boar's Head Tennis Club on Friday, Feb. 17. The Golden Bears will face No. 12 Pepperdine in a noon ET (9 a.m. PT) consolation match on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Cal dropped the doubles point for just the second time, this season, as the Bulldogs won on courts two and three to go up, 1-0, in the dual.

At No. 3 doubles, Georgia's team of Nathan Pasha and Ignacio Taboada claimed the first win of the day when it defeated junior Riki McLachlan and freshman Andrew Scholnick, 8-4. At the top court, Cal's fourth-ranked duo of senior Nick Andrews and junior Christoffer Konigsfeldt found itself deadlocked, five-all, with the seventh-ranked Bulldog team of Garrett Brasseaux and Wil Spencer.

The No. 1 doubles court never finished its match because Georgia sealed the doubles point with a win at court two where Sadio Doumbia and Hernus Pieters upset Cal's 16th-ranked duo of junior Carlos Cueto and sophomore Ben McLachlan.

Georgia went ahead, 2-0, in the dual when No. 43-ranked Taboada defeated Konigsfeldt, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. The Dogs got their third point of the day from court three when No. 55 KU Singh won, 6-1, 6-4, against No. 44-ranked Ben McLachlan. Three singles matches went unfinished when Pasha clinched the win for Georgia from court six where he defeated senior Ahmed Ismail, 7-5, 6-3.

At the top court, Andrews was down, 6-1, 5-2, to No. 21-ranked Doumbia, but did not finish. At No. 2 singles, No. 67-ranked Cueto won his first set, 6-3, against No. 3-ranked Spencer, and was down a break in the second set, 5-4, when the match was halted. At court five, freshman Gregory Bayane was edged by No. 72-ranked Pieters, 7-5, in the first set tiebreaker, but had held serve to go up, 1-0, in the second when play stopped.

The Bears will meet No. 12 Pepperdine (3-5) in a noon ET consolation match, next. Cal will also face the Waves in a neutral-site dual on Saturday, March 10, in Durham, N.C. For more information on the indoor championships, please visit www.itatennis.com.
