BERKELEY - No. 32-ranked California women's tennis junior Tayler Davis capped off an avalanche of Golden Bear singles wins to secure the clinching point in a 6-1 victory against San Diego State (2-2) at the Hellman Tennis Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 1, that keeps Cal undefeated (4-0), this season. Davis became the third match off the courts in a four-minute span when she took out Laura Antonana Iriarte, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.

The win is the final tune-up for the Bears who will now turn their attention to preparing for the 2012 ITA National Team Indoor Championships set for Feb. 10-13, at the Boar's Head Tennis Club in Charlottesville, Va.

"Transitioning to indoors, we're going to work, this next week, on being more aggressive at shorter points," said head coach Amanda Augustus. "The team goal, today, was to win points at the net. I think we'll be focusing on that, in practice, for the next few days. We're also going to work a lot on our serves and returns because it's so important, indoors."

Cal was aggressive at the outset of the dual and put the Aztecs on notice as senior Jana Juricova and freshman Zsofi Susanyi came through with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles against Alicia Aguilar and Julia Wais. At the top court, junior Annie Goransson and sophomore Anett Schutting earned an 8-2 win over Roxanne and Sierra Ellison to notch their ninth consecutive victory and seal the doubles point for the Bears.

At court three, sophomore Alice Duranteau teamed with freshman Cecilia Estlander to take an 8-4 win against Emma Cioffi and Antonana Iriarte for the Cal sweep.

Bears claimed first-set wins on five out of the six singles courts. Just over an hour into singles matches, No. 74-ranked Schutting gave Cal its second point of the dual with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Sierra Ellison, at court three. It was Schutting's seventh consecutive singles victory; her 16th overall.

"I just picked a game plan and stuck with it from the beginning to the end," said Schutting. "[Ellison] was trying to hit every ball, so I just tried to mix up the pace, be patient, and return every ball. Eventually, she just missed. This match gave me confidence. I think I played pretty well. I got to work on my serve, and mixing up the pace, and coming in to the net."

Three minutes behind Schutting, No. 81-ranked Goransson tacked up the same score (6-1, 6-0) to give the Bears a 3-0 lead in the match as she took out Cioffi at court four. Davis followed with her win, a minute later.

No. 64 Estlander dropped just two games on her way to a 10th straight singles victory when she defeated Aguilar, 6-1, 6-1, down at court six for a 5-0 Cal lead. No. 21 Susanyi rounded out Cal's scoring on a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wais at the top court.

San Diego State got its only point from court five where Roxanne Ellison defeated senior Stephany Chang in a third-set match tiebreaker, 10-7. Ellison edged Chang for the first set, 8-6, in the tiebreaker, but Chang responded to claim a 6-2 win in the second set. Ellison took a 7-4 lead in the match tiebreaker and never relinquished her hold on it to emerge victorious.

The Bears will find out their draw in the 2012 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, later this week. Cal's next home match at the Hellman Tennis Complex is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 2, against rival Stanford.
