Championship Central | Tournament Draw
OJAI, Calif. - No. 116-ranked California men's tennis junior Nick Andrews defeated Stanford's Denis Lin, 7-5, 6-1, in the singles quarterfinal of the 2011 Pac-10 Championships on Fri., Apr. 29, at Libbey Park. The third-year Golden Bear will move on to face the second seed in the singles tournament, No. 9-ranked Bradley Klahn of Stanford in an 11 a.m. PT semifinal match on Sat., Apr. 30.
In the doubles championship, Andrews teamed with senior Jonathan Dahan to earn an 8-5 win over Robbie Cambier and Alex Rovello of Oregon in the round of 16. Andrews and Dahan then drew the top-seeded tandem in the tournament, Stanford's No. 2-ranked team of Klahn and Ryan Thacher. The Cardinal flipped the score on the Bears to advance with an 8-5 win. In another first-round doubles match, sophomore Christoffer Konigsfeldt paired with junior Tommie Murphy to match up against Stanford's Matt Kandath and Lin, but were narrowly defeated, 8-6.
Senior Zach Gilbert opened his run in the singles invitational with a three-set win over Doug Mayeda of Oregon in the quarterfinal, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Gilbert will take on Walker Kehrer of Stanford in an 11 a.m. semifinal match on Saturday.
In the doubles invitational draw, Gilbert joined junior Sky Lovill to beat Aaron Clissold and Sho Higuchi of Oregon, 8-5, in one semifinal. On the other side, Morton Bots and Matthew Stith of Washington took out Cal's team of senior Bozhidar Katsarov and sophomore Riki McLachlan, 8-3. Gilbert and Lovill will face Bots and Stith in the doubles invitational final at 11 a.m. on Sun., May 1.
