CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The fifth-ranked California women's tennis team (6-1) claimed a 4-1 victory over No. 13 Georgia Tech (4-3) in a consolation match of the 2011 ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Boar's Head Tennis Club on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Golden Bears bounced back after they were eliminated from title contention by two-time defending champion Northwestern.

Cal won the doubles point for the sixth time this season with victories on courts one and three. Senior Marina Cossou and freshman Anett Schutting posted a strong 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Rocio Alberca Lopez and Muriel Wacker to get the day started. But the Yellow Jackets responded as their No. 68-ranked duo of Christina Ngo and Jillian O'Neill claimed an 8-3 win over Cal's sophomore tandem of Tayler Davis and Annie Goransson at court two. The Bears sealed the first point of the day on an 8-6 win at the top court as the No. 5-ranked team of senior Mari Andersson and junior Jana Juricova took out No. 70-ranked Elizabeth Kilborn and Sasha Krupina for their 10th straight victory together.

No. 4-ranked Juricova stayed undefeated in dual singles matches (6-0) as she tacked up Cal's second point of the day in a 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 105-ranked Ngo at the top court. No. 35-ranked Goransson won her 10th consecutive singles match from court four as she took out Lynn Blau, 6-2, 6-3, to give the Bears a commanding 3-0 lead in the match.

Georgia Tech posted its only point of the day with a win at No. 6 singles as Muriel Wacker came back from dropping her first set to defeat freshman Alice Duranteau, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2. The Bears clinched the match on No. 70-ranked Andersson's 7-6, 6-1 win over No. 61 O'Neill at court two. Andersson claimed a 7-4 win in the first-set tiebreaker before cruising to her 15th win of the year.

With the outcome decided, play was suspended at courts three and five. At No. 3 singles, No. 51-ranked Davis won her first set with a 10-8 decision in the tiebreaker and held serve behind Krupina's 4-3 lead in the second set. At court five, Schutting held a 2-1 lead in third set against Kilborn. Kilborn won the first, 6-2, before Schutting responded to take a 7-5 win in the second.

Cal will face No. 19 Arkansas (8-2) in a second consolation match on Sun., Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT). Live scoring is available courtesy of host institution University of Virginia at www.virginiasports.com.
