FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - The fourth-seeded and fifth-ranked California men's tennis doubles team of senior Nick Andrews and junior Christoffer Konigsfeldt was defeated in the semifinals of the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The Golden Bears fell in a tough three-set match to Ohio State's second-seeded and third-ranked team of Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Though Cal was able to win the first set, the Buckeyes prevailed in a close match.
In the consolation semifinal, junior Carlos Cueto and sophomore Ben McLachlan were also edged in a close match by Princeton's team of Matt Siow and Matt Spindler, 8-6.
The two losses conclude the fall tournament season for the Bears, who will now turn their attention to preparing for the 2012 spring dual season. Andrews and Konigsfeldt finish the fall with a 7-2 mark while Cueto and McLachlan lead all Cal duos with a 12-4 record.
The Bears take on Tulsa for their first dual match on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
