FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Top-ranked and No. 1-seeded California women's tennis senior Jana Juricova made her way to the singles quarterfinal of the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Friday, Nov. 4, at USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, but fell, in three sets, to fourth-ranked Denise Dy of Washington, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
It was the sixth meeting between Dy and Juricova, as the Husky senior evened the head-to-head record at three all. With Juricova's exit, Dy became only one of two remaining seeded players in the tournament. Second-seeded Nicole Gibbs of Stanford also advanced to the semifinals.
Earlier in the day, Juricova defeated USC's Zoe Scandalis, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to advance. She completes the fall tournament season with a 13-3 singles mark and will look ahead to the spring dual season.
