FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - The fourth-seeded and fifth-ranked California men's tennis doubles team of senior Nick Andrews and junior Christoffer Konigsfeldt pushed its way into the quarterfinals of the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Thursday, Nov. 3.

The Golden Bears were the only team to field two pairs in the prestigious indoor tournament. Andrews and Konigsfeldt received a first-round bye before they defeated Mississippi's duo of Johan Backstrom and Jonas Lutjen, 8-6, in the round of 16.

Up next for Cal's top doubles team is the Valdosta State tandem of Christian Hansen and Luis Loeffler. The teams will take the court for an 11 a.m. ET quarterfinal match on Friday, Nov. 4.

Winners of the ITA's Northwest Regional, junior Carlos Cueto and sophomore Ben McLachlan took on Louis Cant and Malte Stropp of Mississippi State in the first round. Cal's duo upended the Bulldogs, 8-5, to advance to the round of 16. Cueto and McLachlan weren't able to punch tickets to the quarterfinal as they had the score flipped, 8-5, in a loss to Michigan's 33rd-ranked team of Shaun Bernstein and Evan King.

Cueto and McLachlan will face the Texas team of Chris Camillone and David Holliner in a 10:30 a.m. match on Friday in the doubles consolation bracket's quarterfinals.

The USTA will host a live chat for the duration of the championships via CoveritLive at www.usta.com. For live scores, updated draws, results, and a schedule of events, please visit www.itatennis.com.
