Andrews and Konigsfeldt Advance to Back-Draw Semis

TULSA, Okla. - The fifth-ranked California men's tennis doubles team of senior Nick Andrews and junior Christoffer Konigsfeldt pushed ahead to earn a spot in the consolation draw semifinals of the 2011 ITA Men's All-American Tennis Championships at the Michael D. Case Center on Fri., Oct. 7.

The Golden Bear duo will face North Carolina's sixth-ranked team of Brennan Boyajian and Jose Hernandez in a noon CT match on Sat., Oct. 8. The back-draw final will be played on Sun., Oct. 9.

Andrews and Konigsfeldt stayed neck and neck with Kentucky's 19th-ranked team of Alex Musialek and Eric Quigley in their first-round match, and found themselves in an eight-all tie with the Wildcats. The two teams went the distance before the Bears pulled out the 11-9 tiebreaker victory to advance.

The Cal duo drew Baylor's No. 23-ranked team of Marko Krickovic and Roberto Maytin in the next round. A tough match ended in the Bears' favor as Andrews and Konigsfeldt prevailed with an 8-6 win.

Junior Carlos Cueto and sophomore Ben McLachlan were also in the doubles back draw. The twosome faced Boyajian and Hernandez of North Carolina in their first-round match, but were eliminated in an 8-6 loss.
