PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The California women's tennis junior duo of Tayler Davis and Annie Goransson moved into the second round of the doubles qualifying tournament at the 2011 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Tennis Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club on Tue., Oct. 4. The Golden Bears need two more wins to earn one of four spots up for grabs in the championship main draw.
Davis and Goransson will draw a familiar foe in the second round. The Cal duo faces UCLA's No. 21-ranked tandem of Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez for a chance to go to the third and final round.
Both Davis and Goransson also participated in the singles qualifier. No. 41-ranked Davis defeated No. 69 Caroline Lilley of Georgia Tech, 7-5, 7-6, with a 7-4 score in the second-set tiebreaker in the first round, but fell, 6-3, 6-3, to UCLA's Robin Anderson in the second round.
No. 57-ranked Goransson went three sets against No. 68 Diana Stojic of South Carolina in the first round, but was narrowly edged, 7-3, in the third-set tiebreaker as she was eliminated, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6.
Championship main draws in both singles and doubles begin on Thursday (Oct. 6) at the Riviera Tennis Club. No. 1-ranked and top-seeded senior Jana Juricova was the runner-up in the 2010 All-American Championship and looks to finish on top, this time around. Juricova and sophomore Anett Schutting form the 13th-ranked doubles team in the nation and are set to compete in the doubles main draw.
