TULSA, Okla. - The No. 19-ranked California men's tennis team (1-1) fell to No. 5 Texas (1-0), 5-2, in a neutral-site match at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Saturday, Jan. 15. The Golden Bears earned two victories in singles--one in doubles--highlighted by senior Pedro Zerbini's 7-6(6), 6-3 victory over Ed Corrie at the top singles court.

The teams traded 8-6 scores on the top two doubles courts, with the Longhorns winning on the first court, and the Bears winning on court two. Cal's No. 17-ranked duo of senior Jonathan Dahan and sophomore Carlos Cueto fought the Texas team of Ben Chen and Vasko Mladenov to an eight-all tie, but was edged, 7-5, in the tiebreaker as the Longhorns claimed the first point of the match.

Texas came up with a 2-0 lead when Jean Andersen took out No. 50-ranked sophomore Christoffer Konigsfeldt at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, and went up, 3-0, as No. 78 Mladenov defeated No. 120-ranked sophomore Riki McLachlan, 6-2, 6-2, at court five.

No. 100-ranked Chen had the clinching point with his two-set win over junior Nick Andrews at court four, 7-6(5), 6-3. With the match decided, Zerbini completed his victory at the top court over Ed Corrie, 7-6, 6-3, to put the Bears on the board. Texas claimed its last point on a win by No. 76-ranked Kellen Damico at court three. Damico defeated No. 59-ranked Cueto, in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2.

Freshman Ben McLachlan gave Cal a second point as he won a match tiebreaker, 10-4, against Sudanwa Sitaram at court six. McLachlan won the first set, 6-3, before Sitaram sealed a 7-5 win in the second.
