Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated at UVA Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The California men's tennis team put four players into singles finals and both of its doubles teams into title matches at the 2010 UVA Fall Classic on Saturday, Sept. 11, as the Golden Bears remained undefeated through two days of play at the Snyder Tennis Center. Each individual player won singles and quarterfinal matches without dropping a set.

No. 17-ranked senior Pedro Zerbini made his way to the Blue singles final by defeating Alexandre Haggai of Binghamton, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarterfinal before earning a 6-3, 6-4 win against Zach Leslie of Wake Forest. No. 123-ranked junior Nick Andrews came up with two 6-3, 6-2 wins on day two as he took out Sebastien Fauchet of Richmond in the quarterfinal and Max Wennakoski of Virginia Commonwealth in the semifinal. Andrews and Zerbini will face off in the Blue singles final at 8 a.m. PT on Sunday, Sept. 12.

Sophomore Riki McLachlan cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Gregory Vladimirsky of James Madison in the Orange singles quarterfinal and then came up with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Nebraska's Brian Parr. McLachlan draws Philippe Oudshoorn of host Virginia in the Orange singles final at 8 a.m. PT.

No. 122-ranked sophomore Christoffer Konigsfeldt successfully dispatched Jesus Bandres of East Tennessee State in the White singles flight quarterfinal; then won, 6-3, 6-3, against Nebraska's Andre Stenger in the semifinal round. Konigsfeldt takes on Sergio Wyss of Maryland in the White singles final at 8 a.m. PT.

In doubles play, Konigsfeldt and Zerbini earned an 8-6 victory against Benedikt Lindheim and Brian Parr of Nebraska in the Blue doubles flight to advance to the final where they will draw Ben Guthrie and Sebastien Vidal of William and Mary in a 6 a.m. PT match at Snyder for the title.

In the Orange doubles semifinal, Andrews and McLachlan took an 8-3 win against David Hopkins and Leslie of Wake Forest. The Cal duo will take on Oudshoorn and Steven Eelkman Rooda of Virginia in a 6 a.m. PT match at Snyder for the Orange flight doubles title.
