2010 Gael Classic Home Page

MORAGA, Calif. - The California men's tennis team sent two participants to the 2010 Gael Classic hosted by Saint Mary's College at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex. Senior Bozhidar Katsarov and freshman Ben McLachlan each advanced to the singles quarterfinal with first-round victories.

Katsarov defeated Santa Clara's John Lamble, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0, with a 10-3 score in the match tiebreaker, but was defeated in the quarterfinal by Stanford's Denis Lin, 6-2, 6-0.

McLachlan earned a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Aliaksandr Malko of Sacramento State in his first-round match before he took out UC Davis' Toki Sherbakov, 6-1, 7-6, with a 7-2 win in the second-set tiebreaker. He will face Stanford's Matt Kandath in the semifinal at 10:30 a.m. PT on Sunday, Nov. 7.

Both players teamed up for doubles play, but were eliminated in the quarterfinal, 8-6, by Nick Lopez and Sherbakov of UC Davis. The Golden Bear tandem also suffered an 8-3 loss to Maxime Olivan and Lucas Tirelli of Saint Mary's College in the consolation semifinal.
