USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships Home Page

FLUSHING, N.Y. - No. 1-ranked California women's tennis junior Jana Juricova will make a return trip to the singles title match of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Tennis Championship. She will defend her championship at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center against seventh-seeded and No. 3-ranked Maria Sanchez of USC not before 8:30 a.m. PT on Sunday, Nov. 7.

Juricova--the No. 2 seed--defeated No. 15-ranked Aerial Ellis of Texas in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, in the semifinal. Juricova held serve in the first set until a pair of service breaks put the set in Ellis' control. The two battled out a close second set before Juricova came up with a 7-5 win and carried momentum to a 6-4 win in the third.

Juricova is 4-1, lifetime, against Sanchez. The last time the two met, Juricova prevailed with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the 2010 NCAA team championship round of 32.

As the second-seeded team in the doubles tournament, senior Mari Andersson and Juricova faced Clemson's third-seeded tandem of Josipa Bek and Keri Wong in the semifinal. The Tigers' fifth-ranked duo upset the top-ranked Golden Bears by taking a 6-3 win in the first set before edging Cal, 8-6, in the second-set tiebreaker.
