PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - With two wins, No. 1-ranked and top-seeded California women's tennis junior Jana Juricova advanced to the main draw singles semifinal of the 2010 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Country Club on Friday, Oct. 8. Juricova also teamed with senior Mari Andersson to move into the quarterfinal of the doubles draw.

In the singles round of 16, Juricova defeated Miami's No. 14-ranked Bianca Eichkorn in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6. Though Eichkorn forced a second-set tiebreaker, Juricova prevailed, 8-6, to move on to the quarterfinal where she met the sixth seed, No. 8 Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame. There, the third-year Golden Bear won her sixth consecutive set in a 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Frilling.

Juricova will face fifth-seeded and No. 7-ranked Denise Dy of Washington in the semifinals at 11:45 a.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 9. A win will pit her against either No. 12 Denise Muresan of Michigan or the second seed, No. 2-ranked Hilary Barte of Stanford, in the championship match on Sunday, Oct. 10.

No. 16-ranked Andersson was on the other end of a 6-4, 6-4 match as she fell in the round of 16 to No. 25 Reka Zilinska of Duke.

As the top seeded team in the tournament, No. 1-ranked Andersson and Juricova moved smoothly through the round of 16 as the Bears defeated Notre Dame's 10th-ranked duo of Frilling and Shannon Matthews, 8-6.

Andersson and Juricova draw USC's duo of Valeria Pulido and Alison Ramos in a 10 a.m. PT quarterfinal match on Saturday, Oct. 9. A win puts the Cal tandem into the semifinal against Stanford's third-seeded and No. 3-ranked team of Hilary Barte and Mallory Burdette. Barte and Burdette walked over into the semifinal because UCLA's seventh-ranked team of Courtney Dolehide and Andrea Remynse withdrew from the competition. A Cal-Stanford semifinal match would begin no earlier than 4 p.m. PT.
