PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - No. 1-ranked and top-seeded California junior Jana Juricova and No. 16-ranked senior Mari Andersson each won their first-round match and will advance to the singles main draw round of 16 at the 2010 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Country Club on Thursday, Oct. 7. As a pair, the two Golden Bears will begin play in the doubles draw on Friday, Oct. 8.

Juricova was strong in her 2010 singles debut as she defeated No. 67 Anastasia Putilina of Utah, 7-5, 6-2, in the round of 32. She draws No. 14-ranked Bianca Eichkorn of Miami in the round of 16 at 12:30 p.m. PT. A win against Eichkorn puts Juricova into the quarterfinal where she will face off against either the sixth seed, No. 8 Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame, or No. 21 Mallory Burdette of Stanford at 3:30 p.m.

Andersson came out and took a 6-1 win over No. 31 Nadja Gilchrist of Georgia in the first set, but grinded out the second as the two went to a tiebreaker. Andersson prevailed convincingly, 7-2, in the breaker to move on. Her appearance in the round of 16 earns her a match against No. 25 Reka Zsilinska of Duke at 12:30 p.m. PT. With a win, Andersson will move into a 3:30 p.m. quarterfinal where she would face the winner of a match between seventh-seeded No. 9 Venise Chan of Washington and No. 12 Denise Muresan.

Singles semifinals will be played on Saturday, Oct. 9, with the championship match set for Sunday, Oct. 10.

As the top seed in the doubles draw, No. 1-ranked Andersson and Juricova received a first-round bye. They will take on Notre Dame's 10th-ranked duo of Frilling and Shannon Matthews in the round of 16 in a 9 a.m. PT match on Saturday, Oct. 8.
