STANFORD, Calif. - California women's tennis's No. 1-ranked and top-seeded doubles team of senior Mari Andersson and junior Jana Juricova won the doubles title at the 2010 USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cal duo defeated Stanford's seventh-seeded team of Veronica Li and Stacey Tan in the semifinal by a comfortable 8-4 margin to draw the Cardinal's fourth-seeded team of Kristie Ahn and Nicole Gibbs in the championship match. The Bears had the No. 58-ranked Stanford tandem on the ropes with a 5-1 lead when Gibbs forced the Cardinal to retire due to an injury.

The victory earns Andersson and Juricova an automatic berth into the prestigious field of 16 teams at the 2010 USTA/ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships to be held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 4-7.

Juricova also enters the singles draw as the defending champion with the No. 1 ranking. Men's tennis will send its No. 29-ranked tandem of junior Nick Andrews and sophomore Christoffer Konigsfeldt, who won the regional doubles title.
