SAN FRANCISCO - California men's tennis sophomore Riki McLachlan and freshman Ben McLachlan will each move into the singles quarterfinal of the second-annual Battle in the Bay Classic with first-round wins at the California Tennis Club on Friday, Oct. 1.

Fourth-seeded Riki McLachlan will face Michael Grant of USC in the quarters after defeating Walker Kehrer of Stanford, 7-6, 7-5, in the first round. McLachlan edged Kehrer for the first set with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker.

Ben McLachlan defeated Artem Gramma of Pacific, 7-6, 6-2, with a 7-4 win in the first-set tiebreaker and will draw USC's JT Sundling in the quarterfinals.

As a pair, the McLachlan's defeated Maxime Olivan and Lucas Tirelli of Saint Mary's College, 8-1, in the first round and will draw the top-seeded team of Matt Kandath and Kehrer of Stanford in the doubles semifinal.

Play resumes at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 2, with singles consolation matches. Singles quarterfinals will take place immediately following the consolation matches. The singles semifinal begins play no earlier than 12:30 p.m. The doubles semifinal will begin no earlier than 3 p.m. PT. Both singles and doubles championship matches will be played on Sunday, Oct. 3.
