The No. 8 Cal women's varsity eight posted victories over No. 20 Oregon State and Kansas in dual racing at the Stanford Invititational on the Redwood Shores Lagoon, April 20. The varsity established themselves early leaders in both contests and look to be finding its stride during the heart of the dual race season.
"We're taking the dual race season one week at a time and I'm pleased with how we've progressed," said coach Dave O'Neill. "We still need to take a few steps forward in order to meet our goals, but I'm confident that we'll get to where we need to be."
In racing against Oregon State, the Bears took the varsity eight and varsity four events, while the Beavers had the upper hand in the JV and novice eight events.
In the afternoon stanza versus Kansas, Cal nearly pulled off a sweep taking the varsity eight, JV eight and varsity "A" four events. Kansas won the varsity "B" four event.
"Last week we learned a tough lesson, but we had a really great week of practice and came back ready to race," said junior Erin Sanford. "We had two confident rows today and we're excited about finding some more boat speed in the next couple of weeks."
