The Cal women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA semifinals with a dramatic 5-4 victory over Wake Forest Friday.
The Bears (21-6), who are seeded fifth in the tournament, will meet top-seed and Pac-10 rival Stanford Saturday at 2 p.m. The other semifinal features Georgia against Florida.
Against Wake Forest (24-3), Cal fell behind, 4-2, after singles. But in doubles, Cal's No. 1 duo of Amy Jensen and Claire Curran and the Bears No. 2 tandem of Anita Kurimay and Karoline Borgersen both won, 8-1.
Tied at 4-4, the match came down to No. 3 doubles. Cal's Christina Fusano and Jenny Lee took a 7-2 lead over Adria Engel and Jackie Houston. Engel and Houston fought back to make it 7-6, before the Bears prevailed, 8-6.
It was Cal's second victory over the Demon Deacons this year. At the National Indoor Tournament, the Bears also won, 5-4.
