Tucson, Ariz - The Cal women's tennis team got things back on track Friday afternoon, defeating No. 26 Arizona, 7-2. After losing two-straight matches to No. 1 Stanford the past two weeks, the Bears now improve their record to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in Pac-10 play.
Sporting a new lineup in singles action, the Bears only loss of the day came at the No. 6 slot where senior Jenny Lee lost to Arizona's Laresa Marino, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. This was Lee's first singles appearance in dual match play this year. Making her first showing at the No. 1 slot, Anita Kurimay made her return from injury a good one by dominating Arizona's Michelle Gough, 6-0, 6-1. This was the junior's first appearance in the No. 1 slot and with the win, ties her with Amy Jensen for a team-leading 16 victories on the year.
In doubles action, Cal's duo of Amy Jensen and Claire Curran, ranked seventh in the nation, were upset by Arizona's Michelle Gough and Lindsey Blau, 8-4. Jensen and Curran previously defeated Blau and Gough for the doubles title at the Rolex Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Feb. 6.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they meet No. 10 Arizona State in a noon match to be held on the campus of Arizona State.
