Berkeley, Calif. - The No. 5 Cal women's team rolled to victory this afternoon, downing the Purdue Boilermakers, 9-0 in a match played in Berkeley. With the win Cal moves to 9-3 on the year and remains 4-3 in Pac-10 play.
The Bears, who sported a different lineup this afternoon as senior Claire Curran was out with illness, managed to sweep all six singles matches while only dropping two sets in the process. After losing four-straight matches in a row, senior Amy Jensen (ranked No. 12 in current national rankings) got things back on track this afternoon, pulling down a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Shannon Taheny at the No. 2 slot. Her victory moves her to 17-12 on the year. Freshman Morisa Yang, who was added to the lineup in place of Curran, grabbed her first dual match victory of her collegiate career, defeating Purdue's Lynsey Fick, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6 slot.
In doubles, No. 14 Anita Kurimay and Karoline Borgersen scored a big victory over No. 15 Jennifer Embry and Shannon Taheny on court one, 8-4. The win pushes their team-leading total to 14 on the season. Amy Jensen and Christina Fusano, playing together for the first time ever, dropped Purdue's Lisa Walgenbach and Lynsey Fick, 8-5 at the No. 2 spot. On court three, Emeka Mayes and Jenny Lee defeated Erika Quebe and Melissa Iqbal, 8-3.
Catch the Bears in action again tomorrow as they host New Mexico in a 1:30 p.m. match at the Hellman Tennis Center.
