Berkeley, Calif. - The No. 4 Cal women's tennis team defeated No. 13 William & Mary, 6-3 this afternoon at Hellman Tennis Center in Berkeley. The win moves the Bears to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in Pac-10 play.
In singles action, Cal's only losses of the afternoon came at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots where Anita Kurimay and Amy Jensen lost respectively. Kurimay's 6-4, 6-2 loss to Carolijn van Rossum, was only her second loss in eight matches. She now moves to 17-8 on the year. Jensen, who was playing in the No. 2 slot for the first time this year, lost a rough match to Carlijn Buis, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, dropping her overall record to 16-11 for the year.
In doubles play, the Bears notched two of the three points to seal the team victory for the Bears. At the No. 1 spot, seventh-ranked Amy Jensen and Claire Curran defeated Carolijn van Rossum and Delphine Troch, 8-5, improving their overall record to 12-5 on the year. Eleventh-ranked Karoline Borgersen and Anita Kurimay were also victorious for Cal on court No. 2, downing Jessyca Arthur and Lindsay Sullivan, 8-5. The loss drops their overall record to 12-5 on the year.
