Henderson Captures Fifth Weekly Pitcher Award

May 10, 2011

BERKELEY - Sophomore hurler Jolene Henderson put forth three more gems this weekend to power the California softball team to a series sweep of Oregon State. Henderson pitched 21.0 innings for three complete-game performances in which she did not allow a single run, making her this week's Pac-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week.

"I think it says more about my team than me," Henderson said of her fifth accolade this season. "We, as a team, have been working so hard, so getting this award is really cool. Last weekend was a hard weekend, and my teammates had my back like a car seat."

Cal blanked the Beavers, 14-0, over the course of the weekend - due in no small part to Henderson. In addition to her perfect ERA, she limited the OSU bats to a .151 batting average. She fanned a weekend-high eight Beavers in Sunday's eight-inning series finale to bring her weekend total to 21.

In Friday's series opener, Henderson pitched the complete-game shutout, striking out seven Beavers and giving up just four hits and three walks. With just one run behind her on Saturday, Jolene Henderson pitched all seven innings, striking out six and walking just one Beaver. But, the real shining moment came Sunday. Despite battling a nasty case of stomach flu, Henderson powered through to pitch the complete-game shutout.

The Elk Grove, Calif., native boasts an incredible 0.70 ERA in 258.2 innings pitched for a 33-6 record.
