Cal Trio Awarded MPSF All-Conference Honors
Baroni, Di Mauro, Moreno Notch League Award
A trio of Golden Bears from the California men's rowing team –
Alexander Baroni,
Gennaro di Mauro and
Pablo Moreno – have been awarded MPSF All-Conference honors, announced by the conference office on Thursday. The recognition follows Cal's runner-up performance at the conference championships last weekend.
All three student-athletes have rowed in Cal's varsity eight in 2026, which notched several wins against top opponents – including No. 4 Princeton, No. 5 Stanford and No. 11 Yale – during the regular season. The crew has held the national No. 2 ranking for the entirety of 2026.
Baroni, a native of Perth, Western Australia, has rowed primarily in the five seat of the V8+. This is the second all-conference honor of Baroni's career after his placement on the 2024 All-Pac-12 Team. Baroni was also named an IRCA First-Team All-American in 2024. As a freshman in 2023, he rowed in Cal's 3V8+ that won the Stewards Cup as part of the Bears' sweep of the IRA Championships. Baroni has also performed on the international stage, most recently representing Australia in the men's four at the 2025 World Rowing Cup II and placing fifth with Team Australia in the men's eight A final at the World Rowing Cup I.
Di Mauro, who has primarily competed in the four seat this season, has enjoyed a prolific rowing career – both in collegiate competition and as an international. He is a three-time IRCA First Team All-American (2022, '23, '25) and, at the conference level, was named the 2022 Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year and to the 2023 All-Pac-12 First Team. He helped Cal win back-to-back IRA National Championships in 2022 and 2023. Di Mauro, a Saint 'Anastasia, Italy native, took the 2024 collegiate season off to train for his appearance for Italy at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It was his second time competing on the world's biggest stage after also competing for Italy at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Di Mauro has featured several times for Italy at World Rowing Cups in the men's eight and single sculls.
Moreno, a native of Sevilla, Andalucia (Spain) who has primarily featured in the Bears' six seat, has earned his first all-conference honor after picking up 2025 IRCA Scholar Athlete and MPSF All-Academic Team recognitions, in addition to placements on the 2023 and 2024 Pac-12 Academic Honor Rolls. Moreno was a part of Cal's 2023 IRA Championship squad as a rower in the 3V8+ that won the Stewards Cup. He earned a spot in the first varsity eight as a 2024 sophomore and in the postseason of his junior year in 2025. On the international stage, Moreno has featured for Spain in the 2022 and 2025 U23 World Championships. He won silver for Spain in the men's four in 2025.
Cal will return to the waters May 29-31 for the IRA Championships held on Lake Natoma in Sacramento.
